Events at the New Orleans Jazz Museum

Jazz Museum Events

When you tour New Orleans homes for sale, you're in the midst of one of America's truly unique hubs of culture. With its rich musical heritage, delicious food, and unmistakable French influences, our real estate agents are confident you'll have many reasons to fall in love.

New Orleans is known as the birthplace of jazz. Between New Orleans open houses, you should make time to visit one of the area's foremost institutions: The New Orleans Jazz Museum. Established back in 1961 and occupying the Old U.S. Mint Building, it seeks to conserve and share the history of jazz.

There's always something new to see, hear, and do at the New Orleans Jazz Museum. Volunteers and staff keep up a busy calendar of events all through the year, and it's not too late to get in on the action.

Let's visit the museum and see some of its upcoming events:

  • Jazz Yoga
Jazz Yoga is one of the most popular events held at the New Orleans Jazz Museum and runs nearly every week – often twice a week. For example, you can catch it on Saturday, November 12, in the morning or Tuesday, November 15 in the afternoon. Participants of all backgrounds are welcome to enjoy jazz, meditation, and mindfulness. To get the most from the experience, bring your own yoga mat.

  • Arrowhead Jazz Band
Presented by the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, the Arrowhead Jazz Band will be performing on Tuesday, November 22, between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. – a truly unique live jazz experience. Arrowhead is made up of a medley of National Park Service Rangers playing alongside other local musicians. In a fun-packed hour, they'll share a lively musical experience of New Orleans jazz, along with blues, gospel, and more.

  • The Ella Project Crescendo Session: Legacy Creating
A signature program of the New Orleans Jazz Museum that local musicians look forward to each year! The Ella Project Crescendo Session: Legacy Creating will be returning for two hours this Tuesday, November 15. This early evening roundtable will discuss important issues for succeeding as an independent musical artist. The upcoming jam session focuses on managing your publishing catalog, estate planning, and termination of copyrights the right way.

  • The Brain and Miracles of Music
Do you ever wonder what goes on in the brain during the intense, high-energy improvisation of a jazz riff? Dr. Randy M. Rosenberg, MD, an associate professor at Temple University's Louis Katz School of Medicine, will unveil the mysteries of music creation on Thursday, November 17, starting at 2 o'clock. Admission is free! The Brain and Miracles of Music will also feature live jazz music.

  • Beginner French
Beginner French is another cornerstone program that's becoming much more frequent at New Orleans Jazz Museum. Led by The Alliance Française de La New Orleans, it will be that organization's first French course in the heart of the French Quarter – and many follow-ups are planned. To join the first session, which will meet for ten weeks, drop in on Saturday, November 19, at 10:00 in the morning.

  • 5th Annual Improvisations Gala
Kick off the social calendar in December with one of the biggest nights in New Orleans Jazz, the 5th Annual Improvisations Gala. This iconic celebration takes place on Saturday, December 3, from 7 p.m. through to 10 o'clock. Some of the leading names in jazz from the local and national scene will take the stage as guests enjoy fine Cajun and Creole cuisine.
